Ghanaian Boxer Freezy MacBones Switches Nationality to UK, GBA Confirms

Published:

The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has officially announced that talented boxer Freezy MacBones has switched his nationality from Ghana to the United Kingdom (UK). GBA President Abraham Neequaye revealed that the decision was made just before MacBones’ professional debut in the ring.

According to Neequaye, MacBones, originally named Seth Gyimah, initially approached the GBA to acquire a license for his boxing career. However, shortly before his fight, he chose to represent the UK instead of Ghana.

Neequaye explained, “We sent him a message, and Freezy himself can confirm it. He came to Ghana to obtain a Ghana Boxing Authority license before fighting in the UK. However, when it was time to obtain a release letter from us, he decided to fight as a UK national.”

MacBones, who previously worked as a mason in Ghana, has now turned his life around after moving to the UK. His inspiring journey from humble beginnings to becoming a successful boxer has caught the attention of social media users, and he has been widely discussed and praised for his recent victory.

In April, the 33-year-old boxer participated in his second professional fight, which took place as an undercard to the Joe Joyce and Zhilei Zhang bout. MacBones showcased his dominance in the ring against veteran Darryl Sharp at the Copper Box Arena in London. With a raw yet aggressive style, he delivered heavy punches and emerged victorious with a unanimous decision over Sharp.

The highlights of his remarkable performance spread rapidly across social media platforms, with many Ghanaians commending MacBones for his fierce boxing style.

Despite MacBones’ switch in nationality, GBA President Neequaye expressed the organization’s stance, stating that they cannot compel the boxer to represent Ghana if he chooses otherwise. Neequaye emphasized that the GBA has numerous other talented boxers to nurture and develop.

“We have our license, but if a boxer decides to fight under another license and forego ours, we cannot persuade him to do otherwise. We have a responsibility to focus on developing our pool of boxers,” Neequaye added.

Fans and enthusiasts can look forward to MacBones’ upcoming return to the ring, scheduled for June 16, where he will continue to showcase his skills and determination.
